I was out of the doghouse. When I reattached the drive to my wifes machine it booted up normally. This product saved my life. I was backing up files on a DVD on my wife's machine when the power went out. Needless to say, my wife was furious and I was in the doghouse. I safely backed up all the files and then went to My Computer, right clicked on the drive and selected Properties, then Tools and clicked on Error Checking.
Windows scanned and fixed all system file errors. We live in an old apartment and the breaker trips when too many lights are on. Repeated boot ups generated the same message. I removed the hard drive, attached the cables and plugged this to my other PC's USB port. When I tried to boot up the machine I got a blue screen with the error "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME". This product is great.
It said Windows was shut down to prevent damage to the computer. It was immediately recognized as another drive.
Guess i got what i paid for.If someone could help me figure it out that would be nice too so there was no use in haveing it fast if i can't get it to work. I got it really quick, it came in 2 days with regular shipping which was great. but i can't get it to work. should have just bought a more expensive one.
Also, having IDE & SATA on the same adapter saves time trying to locate one or the other because when adapters like this first came out a few years back, they were drive specific. Sometimes I find that I am using two of them at the same time (coping from one drive to the other). If you buy this for the geek in your family (Like for Christmas or Birthday), they'll love you forever. This is a great tool to have if you have a bunch of old Hard Drives around the house - I keep a few at work and at home. Easy hook up, ideal for those of you that have one hard drive that you use to back up your digital pictures, music, etc, every once in a while then store the hard drive somewhere else. Also works on laptop drives, A drives, and CD/DVD ROM drives.
